heard the rumours? they’re probably true.
over the summer I wrote a therapeutic text diving into my own lore, victim mentality, checking in with my privilege, and vouching to never go on reddit ever again. I wanted some spice in my life and I definitely got some. here:
“They say, “Go with the times or the times go without you.” And we are in a time where people need to care deeply about you in order to not fall into irrelevance. Having fans is not enough; you need to have haters, too. People have different opinions on when exactly we have entered the post-truth era, but most would agree that a healthy level of controversy contributes to your worth. Pull, buzz, social currency—if your name is mentioned at a dinner party, could people have a heated discussion about you, or would the conversation die down within two minutes?”
let me know if this did something for you.

That was such an interesting read! I’ve always found the whole idea of being a “hater” so fascinating. What do you mean you actually want to spend (waste) your time saying negative things about someone? It’s one thing to share an opinion or criticize a topic, idea, or piece of work, but directing that energy toward a person just feels so strange.
I also really liked your point about how haters react when an influencer takes on a job they wouldn’t personally choose. Because at the same time, if that same influencer didn’t take the opportunity, they’d probably be called ungrateful for not appreciating their privilege, especially when so many others don’t have the same chances. It’s the same logic behind the whole “nepo baby” debate: isn’t it better to see someone using their privilege to actually do/build something, instead of just being famous but irrelevant?
Anyway, love the piece!
