I thought working at Vogue would change my life, but when it finally happened, it only made me grow entirely disillusioned with where this industry headed. The future of culture is now in the hands of independent artists!

I feel this SO HEAVILY. As someone who has been wanting to break into the fashion industry and seeing Vogue as THE blueprint or THE achievement/goal growing up, now that I am older I'm realizing that what I saw when I was younger has shifted completely. I now find myself lost and stuck. Fashion used to be so exciting (especially magazine covers), but now it feels just...bleh. Ugh ya as someone who really wants to work in publication design/art direction (especially for fashion magazines), I FEEL SOOO LOST! (now I am also projecting lol ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ)

I feel like this era isnโ€™t for lazy inspiration anymore. There was a time when you could buy a magazine and instantly find references. Now you really have to dig, and I like that extra effort in the search for beauty. If I want something effortless, Iโ€™ll just go to nature.

Brenda, your text really hit me. It immediately made me think of Diana Vreeland and her era at Vogue, that kind of fantasy we all kind of miss. She used to say, โ€œThe eye has to travel,โ€ and it really has. Your text feels so relatable. Iโ€™m no Brenda, and Iโ€™m sure I havenโ€™t had even 1% of the access youโ€™ve had to the industry. But in some way, Iโ€™m part of it too, we all are. At the end of the day, itโ€™s also a job, a system, a structure weโ€™re all moving through.

Maybe itโ€™s time to look for the south star. Maybe this shift isnโ€™t a loss, but just a change in perspective, and honestly, that feels exciting. It feels like the world is finally looking south. Maybe there is no American Dream anymore. Maybe thatโ€™s not a bad thing.

Honestly one of the realest things Iโ€™ve read on the internet so far in my late 20s

print doesnโ€™t have the same influence it once had indeed, and Vogue US quite literally needs to resurrect from the grave to be relevant again. BUT British Vogue on the other hand can still feel sharp and relevant, itโ€™s more cohesive, visually daring, and specially culturally in tune.

You get it but Iโ€™m so excited to put upcoming voices on that pedestal too

I really like 032c, system, a magazine curated by, cr book, and another magazine. First that popped into my mind that Iโ€™m consuming and go for inspiration
